As you drive the 4 miles up the single track road to Black Clauchrie you will revel in the sense of isolation and beauty that is this part of Ayrshire. The house is a wonderful example of Edwardian Arts and Crafts architecture, with a beautiful ballroom with vaulted ceilings which doubles as a games room - ideal for a ceilidh as it is renowned for its excellent acoustics making it a unique place for weddings and celebrations. The hall doubles as a Games room so if you ever tire of the outdoors you can enjoy a game of badminton or table tennis.
The house is a much loved family home and whilst it is an extremely comfortable and spacious house it is a work in progress to restore to its Edwardian glory. The public rooms are well furnished and full of character with panelled walls and open fires and the newly re-furbished kitchen is very well equipped and extremely attractive.
On the first floor there is a splendid antique bath and ‘surround shower’ that you will marvel at. The bedrooms are spacious with a 4-poster in the en suite master bedroom. The other bedrooms are more modest but very functional. Outside there is a large garden with a sense of a “secret garden” and a small lochan. The wildlife is a joy with owls, deer, ducks, pheasants and fox seen regularly. There is as much space to walk and explore as you could want with easy access to the Galloway Forest nearby. There is much to do in the area with day trips to the South Ayrshire beaches and towns, numerous excellent golf courses in the area including Turnberry, though you may prefer to enjoy the peace up at the house where the only sounds are those of the breeze in the trees or the birds overhead.
